Activity – divide class into two groups. One group claps in time for the A part of the tune. When the A part is over the second group claps in time for the B part of the tune. Students recognise the structure of this reel tune in its’ A and B part components. Students are taught that a reel is composed in 4/4 timing. This pattern is explained to the students. Students learn how to recognise a reel from the phrase “caterpillar, caterpillar, caterpillar…”
